We are compiling a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) about the East Cambs Connect Service. Do the minibuses have passenger lifts or low steps?

Yes, all the minibuses are fully accessible with passenger lifts or low steps

Where can I go?

The service covers the East Cambridgeshire District area inclusively (see map) and
customers are able to travel anywhere within that area.

When does the service run?

The service is available between 7am and 7pm, Monday to Friday (excluding Bank Holidays).

The Supporters Group will actively aim to find sustainable solutions for the service to be extended to weekends and later into the evening. We are aware that young people, living in villages, in particular may wish to use the service during the evening.

Who Can Travel?

Anyone is able to use the East Cambs Connect, this is a door to door service and so will require booking before travel, and bookings must be made at least one working day before travel and subject to availability so booking earlier if possible is advised.

How much will it cost?

Journeys will be charged at £4 for a single journey and a return is £8 for adults. Children are charged £2 for a single journey and £4 return.

Concessionary Bus Pass Holders currently will be entitled to a 50% discount, in line with the council’s community travel policy, subject to review at the end of each financial year.

Fares should be paid to the driver at the time of travel, you will not be required to pay in advance when booking.

How do I book a journey?

To book a journey, telephone the booking line between 9am and 1pm on: 01353 612699 or email
total.transport@cambridgeshire.gov.uk with your enquiry.

When calling please make sure you have all the relevant information to hand such as time of your
appointment or visit, the address you are travelling to.

The County Council will your journey book your where possible. If not they will try to offer you alternative dates and times when it will be possible for you to make your journey.

If no one is available to take your call then you can leave a message on the answer service. Clearly stating your name and number and someone will call you back as soon as possible.

Do the service offer assistance when travelling?

Yes, but discuss this when you are making a booking on 01353 612699.

Please also state whether you will be bringing a wheelchair, wheeled walker/frame, mobility scooter, walking stick, booster seat, escort - whilst making the booking.

Can I take a dog with me?

It might be possible to take a guide-dog, but please discuss this when making a booking on 01353 612699

I am a visitor to the area. Can I use the service?

Yes you can. But make sure that you book at least one working day in advance on the booking-line 01353 612699 or email total.transport@cambridgeshire.gov.uk

Also do be aware that the service currently does not operate at weekends or bank holidays.

Please also remember, it is not a taxi service. It will pick you up at an approximate time and may take longer than a taxi as it may pick up more people and drop others off. Some people may have disabilities and take longer to board and disembark.

However, it will give you the opportunity to chat to local people!!

What happens it my train or other form of transport is late arriving at my booked pick-up point?

What happens if the bus does not arrive at the booked pick-up point.

Try to get a mobile telephone number from the driver before you get dropped off. You should arrive at least 10 minutes before you are due to be picked up and allow at least 10 minutes after the pick up time.

I live in East Cambridgeshire and want to work in another part of East Cambridgeshire - but can't get there by regular public transport. Can I use the East Cambs Connect service?

Yes, you can make a booking for regular travel to and from your workplace on a week day (Monday to Friday between 7am and 7pm) Please discuss this with the Booking line on 01353 612699 or email total.transport@cambridgeshire.gov.uk

If I work in Cambridge or London and commute by train from Ely or Littleport railway station, can I use the East Cambs Connect service to get to and from the railway station?

Yes, you can make a booking for regular travel to and from your local train station on a weekday (Monday to Friday between 7am and 7pm), if there is no regular public transport. Please discuss this with the Booking line on 01353 612699 or email total.transport@cambridgeshire.gov.uk

I want to do voluntary work at Wicken Fen or WWT Welney, but there is no public transport to these locations and I don't have a car. Can I use the East Cambs Connect service?

Yes you can on a weekday (Monday to Friday between 7am and 7pm). Please discuss this with the Booking line on 01353 612699 or email total.transport@cambridgeshire.gov.uk 

I do have a car, but want to reduce my carbon emissions, when I travel within East Cambridgeshire. Can I use the service?

My car has broken down. Can I use the East Cambs Connect service?
